Ibanez EDB605 Ergodyne Bass - Jewel Blue

The EDB605 is one of those Ibanez basses where the slightly funky looks actually have a very practical reason behind them. Part of the Ergodyne series, it uses a Luthite body with a radically curved back and a scooped top, designed to make the bass more comfortable while playing. The EDB series was Ibanez's deliberately modern take on bass design in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and the EDB605 was produced in Korea through this period.

The Luthite body is paired with a slim three-piece maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, with 24 frets and a 34" scale. Two Ibanez DXH humbuckers provide plenty of output, while the active 3-band EQ gives you enough control to shape the sound for very different situations. The combination is straightforward but effective: this is a properly versatile five-string that can cover a lot of ground without feeling complicated.

One of the nicest things about the EDB design is that the ergonomics are not just cosmetic. The curved back sits comfortably against the body, while the scooped front gives your picking hand plenty of room. The result is a bass that feels compact and comfortable despite being a full-scale five-string. The Jewel Blue Flat finish adds exactly the right amount of early-2000s Ibanez weirdness.

Probably one of the best-value ways into a used five-string bass: this is a properly good instrument that you could take to a gig without worries.

This one is in excellent condition, fully original, with only light wear apart from one scratch on the horn, shown in the pictures.
