Ibanez AZ2402 Prestige

The AZ2402 shows Ibanez flexing its muscles and making a phenomenal modern all-rounder. The specification reads like a wishlist for a versatile professional instrument: an alder body, roasted maple neck and fingerboard, stainless steel frets, Seymour Duncan Hyperion humbuckers, Gotoh locking tuners and tremolo, and an unusually flexible switching system.

The dyna-MIX10 system is a big part of what makes the AZ2402 so useful. With its five-way selector and Alter switch, the two humbuckers can produce ten different combinations, including Power Tap settings designed to give a convincing single-coil-style response. The Hyperion pickups themselves use moderate-output Alnico 5 magnets, deliberately balancing clarity and pick attack with enough output for overdrive and distortion. It is a very practical approach to versatility: rather than trying to make one pickup do everything, Ibanez gives you a genuinely broad range of usable sounds.

The rest of the guitar is equally well thought out. The roasted S-TECH maple neck and fingerboard are stable and comfortable, with smoothly finished edges, while the jumbo stainless steel frets should remain exceptionally consistent over a long playing life. Gotoh Magnum Lock tuners and the T1802 tremolo complement the package, and the Luminlay side dots are a genuinely useful touch on a dark stage. Like the other Japanese-made Prestige instruments, the execution is excellent; the fretwork on this one in particular is wonderful.

This is one of those instruments that never gets in the way: it simply makes it easier to make your music. The AZ2402 is modern and highly engineered without feeling like a technical exercise, and it can cover an unusually wide range of styles without having to compromise much on any of them.

This one is in excellent condition and ready to make more awesome music. Just a tiny bit of buckle rash and two tiny nicks on the headstock. Fully original.
