The Hopf Twisty is one of the more distinctive solid-body guitars to emerge from the German instrument industry of the 1960s. Its offset body clearly reflects the influence of Fender’s Jazzmaster, but the Twisty is far from a straightforward copy. The unusual proportions, simple control layout and hammered-metal finish give it a character all of its own.

This version combines a punchy angled single-coil pickup with a vibrato system that performs surprisingly well for a guitar of this period. The straightforward electronics are part of the appeal: rather than offering a wide range of switching options, the Twisty focuses on a direct, lively electric-guitar sound.

A particularly characteristic detail is the laminated neck. Hopf and other German manufacturers used multi-layer neck construction extensively during this era. Gluing together thin sections of wood creates a stiff, dimensionally stable structure and also allowed manufacturers to produce necks efficiently.

The champagne-coloured hammered finish is another distinctive feature. Hammered or “hammerite” finishes were relatively unusual on guitars, but were practical to apply and gave many German instruments of the period a durable, industrial appearance. On this Twisty, the finish works especially well with the offset body shape.

This example is in very good condition, with normal age-related wear. A small amount of both logos is missing. There have been no repairs or modifications, and the guitar includes a vintage gig bag and strap.
