To be honest, a lot of Gibson's don't particularly blow my mind. But then once in a while, they truly make an instrument that's up there with the best of them. This Midtown Standard has got that soul - it just feels great to play, with loads of sustain and a touch sensitivity in the pickups that makes it feel like your brain is directly wired to your amp (don't do this at home, kids). It also looks great, in this rare Pelham Blue finish with lots of checking in the nitro lacquer. A great guitar, ready for the stage.
The Midtown series are quite interesting guitars: they feature a hollowed out solid mahogany body, with a solid maple cap. They're a bit smaller than an ES-335, but bigger than an ES-339. Tonally, they sound like a more open Les Paul, or a punchier ES-335 - somewhere in between. And with the P90s it becomes even more flexible - this guitar can suit any genre.
Condition: very good, with lots of lacquer checking and one larger ding that has been covered up somewhat clumsily by the previous owner. Fully original
