G&L was the final home of Leo Fender, the place where he made the last iterations of his designs. The ASAT Classic takes the telecaster recipe and refines it for more comfort and versatility. Of course, the main attraction are the MFD pickups, which give you more in every direction than a standard single coil (you can get standard single coil sounds from it though, just dial volume and tone back a notch). G&L's build quality always was great, but these three bolt models from the 90s are probably the best guitars they made.
G&L has just shut down, so there won't be any new ASATs. It's a sad loss, I always liked their guitars more than those of Leo's other companies. This, then, is a lovely American guitar from a company that hopefully will be fondly remembered. I hope it finds someone that gives it a rocking future.
