Fender Antigua Telecaster (FSR 2012)

This is the return of Fender's wonderfully over-the-top Antigua finish, in a Mexican-made Factory Special Run Telecaster from 2012. Antigua had originally appeared on Fender instruments in the late 1960s and became particularly associated with the company's 1970s catalogue, before disappearing for long stretches. The 2012 FSR brought it back on a small run of familiar Fender models, including this Telecaster.

Underneath the finish, Fender kept things deliberately traditional: an alder body, maple U-shaped neck, maple fingerboard with a vintage-style 7.25" radius, 21 vintage frets, vintage-style Telecaster single-coils and the classic three-saddle Tele bridge. In other words, this is very much a straightforward vintage-spec Telecaster, with the Antigua finish and matching pickguard doing most of the talking.

The Antigua finish is what makes this particular version special. Its shaded green-and-cream appearance is one of Fender's more unusual finishes, and it has always been considerably less common than the company's standard solid colours and sunbursts. It also makes for a Telecaster that looks unmistakably like a product of Fender's stranger 1970s design period.

This one is near mint, with no relevant scratches or dings and just a little patina on the metal. Fully original and ready to play.
